Helping those in Need
In my time in living in St Lucie county I have come across many people without considerable means. Whether that's a lack of food, a lack of shelter, or lack of both; it all contributes to a lack of capability.
I don't mean to say that these people are not capable of getting their own means, but we certainly do not make it any easier for them! What was the last time you heard of a business hiring somebody off the streets? What was the last time you heard somebody give a chance to a man trying to give his life back together?
Rare few.
Not only do I find it heartbreaking that these people are unable to live sustainably, but I find it infuriating that our community seems to put the " image" of prosperity in front of actually obtaining prosperity.
These people are without and we choose to act differently to them. We choose to put a divider in a park bench instead of allowing anyone to lay down in it we choose to allow this to happen.
What are the things we need to start doing is helping those in our community out. When we choose the easier path of non-committance then we allow ourselves to fall prey to a disingenuous lifestyle.
While simultaneously preaching about prosperity and our abilities to do so we actively hinder those who need it most. If our community actually cares about individuals, regardless of their class or position, then we need to start with some of the people who require the most help.
Don't be afraid to go to your local city council meeting or City Hall to show that you care about these people. Change needs to happen and it needs to start with us!
Regardless of my 40 bucks that I gave to somebody the other day; I don't believe that individual charity is the way forward. If you or I give money to us a handful of people that does not lift them out of poverty it only prevents them from going under for a day or so. Actual services are what we need to provide not a temporary bandage for most grievous wound.
